Free Cars for Low Income Families

Low-income families will be able to receive up to almost $ 4,600 more in social benefits in 2020 thanks to new federal government social benefit programs, Family Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said Thursday. Government also helping low income families to get free cars.

In 2018, the federal government began indexing the Canada Child Benefit, which will allow low-income parents to receive more money for their children. About 3.7 million families are eligible for this benefit.

In addition, the Canada Workers Benefit, announced in the 2018 budget, is scheduled to come into force this year. This allowance could allow a single worker to receive up to $ 1,300 and a couple worker to receive up to $ 2,300, in particular to help with the purchase of healthy food or clothing & cars for low income individuals.

"This new benefit will replace the old WITB system and lift 74,000 more Canadians out of poverty," said Employment and Social Development Canada.

A third benefit, the Canada Housing Benefit, is to be launched in 2020. This assistance measure aims to support approximately 300,000 families by enabling them to touch up to $ 2,500 to help them pay their rent.

"When the third and last of these benefits comes into effect in 2020, low-income families with one child under the age of six and another between the ages of 6 and 17 could receive up to $ 17,000, compared to 12 $ 443 [currently], "said the department.
